Ever wonder what fellow competitors think of our club sponsored matches and our facility? Below is a nice letter we received with respect to the recent Regional and State Action Pistol Tournament.

Septmeber 29, 2006

Dear Sirs and Madame:

I recently attended both the Regional and State Action Pistol Tournaments held at The Triangle Sportsmen's Club in Bluefield, VA.

First, let me say that you have a terrific facility. Triangle is probably one of the nicest Action Pistol Facilities in the country. This is no accident. I know that it takes much planning, much work, and much money to make all this happen. You, as an organization, are to be commended for this.

Second, the range personnel who assisted in the operation and running of the match were outstanding. As you know the weather was not very pleasant as it rained a good part of both days of the tournaments. Range operators and personnel assisting including food vendors and the like all probably got wet.

Thirdly, the matches went on. The Fall Virginia matches have been growing consistently over past years, and this year's Virginia Matches under the direction of Kevin Angstadt were slated to be some of the best and biggest ever. Kevin, has a very credible reputation in the shooting sports, and is known for sponsoring a very good match. There were many shooters who had planned to shoot both matches and many of those shooters were planning to shoot multiple guns, i.e. generating more entry fee money.

Anticipating all this like any good match organizer would, Kevin and his associates made preparations to have proper awards (plaques) customized for the multiple events. Further, he had an impressive prize table for competitors, based on "promised participation" and normal tournament growth. He managed to have quality food and beverage and some protection from the rain for the competitors. A first class operation!

Finally, many shooters based on weather predictions did not come to the tournaments. Some competitors who shot on Saturday, decided not to shoot on Sunday and some competitors who planned to shoot multiple guns, chose to only shoot one. All of these situations were no fault of the Club, the match organizers, or the shooters. It was simply poor weather conditions. Some match organizers may have chosen to cancel certain matches based on these conditions. Your Triangle group did not. We came there to shoot, and you made it happen.

In closing, I would just like to thank all of you and your Club for hosting such a great tournament. As a former director of my own Club in Northern Virginia, I have an understanding of issues and concerns that Clubs face and especially those who make decisions on behalf of the Club's Members. Your organization is to be commended for doing the right thing for the competitor. You are very fortunate to have the people that you have to run matches. When you have a leader like Kevin Angstadt, it is easier to get volunteers to assist.

Respectfully,

Martin Johnson
